Stone Risk Reduction

  1. Drink more water
    • It dilutes the urine and makes it less likely for the urine to be able to concentrate and form a stone
  2. Get the right amount of Calcium in your diet
    • Too much or little can be harmful.
  3. Reduce Sodium
    • A lot of sodium in the diet can result in increases in the amount of calcium in the urine
  4. Don’t overindulge in animal protein
    • A little is quite good – but too much can raise the levels of uric acid in the urine and result in stones
  5. Avoid Oxylate rich foods
    • Silverbeet
    • Tea without milk
    • Chocolate
    • Rhubarb and spinach
  6. Minimise Cola Drinks
    • They contain high amounts of phosphate
